CONTACT: Group Art Show! @JalaniMorgan x @Shingo_Shimizu

I paired up with Toronto Photographer Jalani Morgan to develop an innovative installation that blurs the distinction between 2 and 3-Dimensional art. Bringing my 'usual' sensibility fused with Morgan’s fashion portraiture, we manipulated our complimentary elements into intricate puzzle-like layers of fine acrylic cuts.

Check out our exhibit as part of Scotiabank’s CONTACT Photography Festival at 99 Sudbury, May 6, 7-11pm.

The exhibit also features the works of Photographers/Artists – Steve Carty, Che Kothari, Javier Lovera, Scott McIntyre, Simon Rojas, Cory Vanderploeg, Elicser and Skam.

*COME EARLY to avoid disappointment at the door. Hope to see you there!

HOT SAUCE: Assembly featuring Knowing Looks (musique-risquée)

Currently wrapping things up with art direction duties on Issue #2 of Scion magazine. Very exciting stuff. Don't want to say anything yet, until it's gone to press. So for now, I'll say it's been very exciting so far, and we've definitely outdid Issue #1. Very much looking forward to the final product. Should be out in a few weeks' time, so definitely check back to see where you can pick it up!

Also working on a collaboration piece with photographer Jalani Morgan, for the upcoming Contact festival.

Almost forgot, I'm also DJing this Saturday March 12 at Tequila Bookworm (512 Queen St. W, upstairs). If you're in the area, come by and say hello!.

This time, we feature Knowing Looks, the moniker of one Jason Hopfner, a singular, outlandish laptop artist. Originally from the wilds of the Canadian prairies, he now resides in Toronto after stints in Europe and the Middle East. Knowing Looks is a tribute to all the music that plays incessantly and simultaneously in Jason's head, and finding a way to refine that into something the rest of the world can move to. If you could mix the mids and treble of Lite FM and 70's fusion with the lows of detroit/german minimalism, filter it through a case of ADD and present it without irony, it would either sound like shit, or like Knowing Looks. In addition to co-running the Grain Records label and releasing vinyl through Montreal's Musique Risquee (home of Akufen, The Mole, Bruno Pronsanto, Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts, etc.), Knowing Looks is currently preparing a brand new live laptop set to unleash on the public. His new 10” single on WNCL Recordings is already turning heads in the UK and receiving support from the likes of Pariah (R&S), Blawan (Hessle Audio), Martin Kemp (Blunted Robots), and 2562 (Tectonic).

Infographics for Fast Company magazine

Just completed a bunch of infographics for the march issue of Fast Company. The article is about some really new innovative inventions: National Gypsum Thermalcore heat-absorbing walls, Arnold Glas bird-friendly glass, and Nanopool spray-on glass. I know I could use me some of that spray-on glass, on my Ikea desk!

Cover Art For New Puzzle EP

Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great holiday. :)

I know I did over on the west coast, finally getting into snowboarding. Now where to go boarding after Whistler, when you live in Toronto? hmmm.

Being fully relaxed over the holidays, it's nice hit the grind again. Is it me, or is 2011 moving VERY FAST? That being said, there are lots of interesting projects on the horizon. Almost finishing a series off with my photographer friend, Jalani Morgan. So check back soon!

The illustration above was slightly reappropriated from "Full Circle" for Puzzle's new EP, "Polysnacks". You can listen and purchase the EP here.

Hot Sauce presents: Assembly

This is a small flyer I did for my DJ crew 'HOT SAUCE', for our next party this Friday December 17, at Bloc Twenty Two (587 College St.). For a sampling of the music we play, follow the link here. We've been doing it a while now, but switching the format a little by featuring it as a monthly, with occasional guest DJs and VJs.

Also we give out a limited number of buttons specific to each party. If you're lucky enough to grab one, wear it, and you'll receive the special treatment of $4 shots all night! Not pushing the alchohol but, it's the end of a hard pre-holiday work week. You deserve it. The Toronto weather is very cold, but why not celebrate your efforts by celebrating, affordably? You can bug us for buttons here.

Don't forget to RSVP!

Yes, I want a Herman Miller chair for Christmas (hint hint). Pretty cool video presented by Dwell (from 'Color Theory: The Full Spectrum - Part 3). Susan Lyons from Herman Miller talks to Aaron Britt from Dwell talks to Susan Lyons, about how color plays into their designs.
