Hot Sauce #2 mix

I finally came around to putting together another short mix with a little bit of everything. It's sort of different this time around than my usual stuff, because I incorporated some Dubstep. I never considered myself as a 'house head' even though I usually play mostly house. Lately there's been a such a huge surge in musical creativity that it can't be ignored! So I had to incorporate some of those new directions in music that I find pretty exciting, into this mix. Also I couldn't resist tacking on a very 90s breaks-sounding by one of my favourite Dubstep artists, Zomby at the end. It's a bit rough around the edges, as Dubstep is pretty different from House. Anyhow, download it and hit the PLAY button. Let me know what you think! Enjoy.

New Cover Illo for Pearson (Australia)

Just finished this cover illustration for Pearson (Australia). They loved what I did with the WWW Girl, but more on a superhero-tip, so I created an alternate version. I had a difficult time drawing out the swirl, so I ended up tracing one out from a 10" record by Gotan Project. Below are some roughs.

Pax 101: A peaceful cardboard robot

It's been a while since my last artwork update. I've been quite busy with a number of varied projects, especially with this character design called 'Pax', which was commissioned by The Hive. Built with a sheet of cardboard, Pax is a peaceful robot hoping to bring peace in the Middle East.

The final version is pretty close to what I envisioned. Except:

1) the original head side flaps were bent (so it could be more expressive), instead of the current stiff flaps-straight-out look, and

2) the original design required no glue for the joints, and it does currently. Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with the finished product.

More photos up of Pax in the Character Design gallery and below!

My DJ set tonight at Sutra Tiki Bar

Yes, finally it's Friday. Thought I'd never get through this week. But I did, and so did you!

I'll be throwing down a DJ set of my favourite deep house, disco, and dubstep down at Sutra Tiki Bar (612 College St.) tonight with my Hot Sauce crew, as guest DJs for the FREE MIXER event. So come by after your fancy after work dinners, and warm up to some nice booze and beats.

Fresh take on the Football Ad.

So it's been a while since I've been watching commercials, since I don't really watch TV. I stumbled upon this pretty fresh take on a football ad by Guy Ritchie. Awesome!

Juno Review: Thomas Hamman & Gerd Janson – Live at Robert Johnson Volume 4

Artist: Thomas Hamman & Gerd Janson
Title: Live at Robert Johnson Volume 4
Label: Live At Robert Johnson Germany
Genre: Disco/Nu-Disco
Format: CD
Buy From: Juno Records

The powerhouse duo, behind the Liquid club nights at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson, Thomas Hamman and Running Back label honcho Gerd Janson, are the latest to take the reigns on the club’s fourth release. With its impressive selection and solid mixing, it’s like being on a journey through the 90s.

The first few tracks provide a nice starter to warm up the ears, taking us out deeper into space with Lontano’s sublime “Lovebass”. It’s where the fourth track “W.B.W.U.” kicks in, where it would really whip hips on the dance floor. It is just sequenced so beautifully, from the infectious kicks and snares, build-ups, the abrupt pause, and the drop. Amazing…(more)

Interview by Hermann & Audrey

Photography by Jalani MorganPhotographers much like Illustrators, make people look much better than they do. I don't think I'm photogenic. To be honest, I'm pretty squeamish when having my photo taken on a set. But I have a lot of respect for photographers. Unlike, us illustrators who may need a couple days to capture a moment, they do it almost instantly. They also have to be able to direct people, so their subject feel comfortable in front of the camera. Pretty cool. Oh and they can make a raccoon look human.

I rolled onto the set that day, pulling an all-nighter, because of some crazy deadlines. Despite the sleepy raccoon situation, my mood was happy because of the great company on set: Kimberley Yun, Willie Tsang and of course Jalani Morgan.

I had the opportunity to meet the talented photographer from the Hermann & Audrey collective, and kept in touch ever since. Thank you for the interview Jalani!

NEW! T-Shirt section is up!

Finally I've got around to compiling T-shirt designs I did over the last few years. It really takes a long time to compile, and it is adding a bit of weight to the site. Got to trim down the fat some time soon! Anyhow, please take a look, and let me know what you think! I will be posting some of my artwork onto T-shirts probably sometime in the near future, so check back soon. :)

Check it!

Hot Sauce #1 mix (Just the Tip) by DJ Shingo

I finally got around to doing a mix! This is the last mix in our ‘Just the Tip’ series. I was supposed to keep it at 30 minutes, but I went further with 51 minutes. It’s a bit difficult to include all types of music that I’m into one short mix of course. Regardless I’ve kept it pretty much on the fun side of things, with tracks that I instantly loved. (ie: Dam Funk, Apiento Edit of Sade’s ‘Paradise’, NSI, etc.). By the way, anybody going to catch the Dam Funk show at the Drake Underground tonight? Haven’t seen him perform yet…or is it a DJ set? Not crazy about the venue, but Dammmmmm Funk! (somebody bring me a coffee). Hopefully see you there!

Anyhow, back to this mix… it’s pretty laid back and chill for the first 2/3 then kicks in the last 1/3. You can download it below. Enjoy!
